History of Art and Architecture

Congratulations to our Friends of Frick Fine Arts Undergraduate Research Award Winners

Brianna Humbert travelled to Washington DC to observe a public performance by Sheryl Oring, the contemporary artist on whom she is writing her Honors Thesis.  While there, she had an opportunity to participate in the performance and interview the artist. She also attended an exhibition celebrating the Women's Caucus for Art at the Katzen Center for the Arts at The American University.

Emily Mirales will travel to Washington DC to garner material for her Honors Thesis on the National Botanical Garden in Washington DC, studying archival materials at the Library of Congress and conducting site analysis.

Melissa Quarto will travel to Peru over Spring Break to conduct research for her Honors Thesis on the way this nation utilizes the Incan past and its chief monuments to construct a national identity, promoting 'incanismo' internationally to the tourist market. She will study tourist sites in Cuzco and follow the tourist 'pilgrimage' route between that city and Machu Picchu.

Natalie Wilk will travel to Poland this summer to embark on an independent research project that investigates the social intention of Soviet Realist architecture that was introduced into Poland in the 1950s.  Specifically, she will conduct an analysis of the architecture and urban planning of the industrial town of Nowa Huta outside Krakow, built by Communists to attract lower and working class people.
